As part of my senior capstone class for the UIdaho Professional Writing emphasis, I worked with a group of students who have all worked toward their degrees from the Coeur d'Alene satellite campus, The Harbor Center. Throughout our academic careers there, we have all missed opportunities that are available on the Moscow campus, as well as been left to our own devices when navigating our respective areas of emphasis. When given the opportunity to address the UI English Department directly with our concerns and propose solutions to some of these issues, we put together a resource guide for CdA students containing location specific information we all had wished was readily available to us, and this white paper. The white paper is focused on the lack of Student Involvement available on the CdA campus and opportunities missed because of poor communication and lack of outreach. This disconnect can be illustrated by several specific problems that are discussed at length in this paper. These problems do not encompass the entirety of issues Coeur d’Alene students face, but they are the ones we feel are most important and the easiest to remedy. There is a lack of student opportunity to become involved in extracurricular activities and groups on campus, limited professional opportunities, and inadequate skill-building experiences. This paper contains several ways these problems can be addressed with an emphasis on improving communication between the two campuses. I supplied information gathered from researching the issue, several sections of the written content, and final edits. Layout, design, and editing was executed by Brittany Shands. Other listed team members also contributed to the research and written content. Read the proposal here.
Vandalism is the University of Idaho's Undergraduate Literary Journal that showcases work by UI undergraduate students. The journal is staffed by members of Sigma Tau Delta's Eta Chi Chapter at UI and is entirely student run. This will be the journal's first digital edition due to COVID restrictions and free to the public.
For this issue I have not only served on staff as a reader, providing editing feedback, but also organized layout and design via Adobe InDesign for the spring 2021 issue, Vandalism #7. Read Vandalism #7 here.
